Classic Soda Bread

Try this easy and fun recipe. Served toasted with butter and a cup of coffee or tea, this traditional bread is the perfect sunrise for your early morning.

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flourIrish Soda Bread Image
5 tablespoons sugar
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoons baking soda
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup raisins

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mix flour, 4 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a large bowl. Soften butter and work into the mix. Then pour in the buttermilk and raisins and stir.

Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased 8” round cake pan. Flatten the top of the dough slightly, but do not press it to the edges of the pan. Sprinkle the top with the remaining sugar and bake for about 40 minutes.
