{"id":119,"date":"2012-10-08T19:07:33","date_gmt":"2012-10-08T19:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stpatricksday.com\/spdc_content\/?page_id=119"},"modified":"2013-01-09T15:32:16","modified_gmt":"2013-01-09T15:32:16","slug":"shepherds-pie","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stpatricksday.com\/spdc_content\/irish-recipes\/shepherds-pie\/","title":{"rendered":"Shepherd\u2019s Pie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Irish tradition \u2013 try this amazing Shepherd\u2019s Pie recipe for this year\u2019s St. Patrick\u2019s Day or any other time you\u2019re looking to impress guests or just serve up a delicious meal for your family.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><\/strong><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n1.5 lbs ground beef<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stpatricksday.com\/spdc_content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Irish-Shepherds-Pie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-128\" title=\"Shepherd's Pie\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stpatricksday.com\/spdc_content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Irish-Shepherds-Pie.jpg\" alt=\"Shepher'ds Pie\" width=\"302\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stpatricksday.com\/spdc_content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Irish-Shepherds-Pie.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.stpatricksday.com\/spdc_content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Irish-Shepherds-Pie-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n1 chopped onion<br \/>\n1 cup peas  or diced green beans<br \/>\n1 cup diced carrots<br \/>\n1 can corn<br \/>\n1 1\/2 \u2013 2 lbs potatoes<br \/>\n8 tablespoons butter<br \/>\n1\/2 cup beef broth<br \/>\n1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce<br \/>\nSalt and pepper (to taste)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><\/strong><strong>Instructions<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nPeel and quarter potatoes, and boil in water until tender.<\/p>\n<p>While the potatoes are cooking, melt 4 tablespoons butter in a large frying pan.  Saut\u00e9 onions in butter until tender over medium heat.  If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time. Put any carrots and\/or green beans in with the onions.  Add corn either at the end of the cooking of the onions, or after the meat has initially cooked.<\/p>\n<p>Add ground beef and saut\u00e9 until no longer pink.  Add salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.<\/p>\n<p>Then add half a cup of beef broth and cook, uncovered, over low heat for 10 minutes, adding more beef broth as necessary to keep moist<\/p>\n<p>Mash potatoes in bowl with rest of butter, season to taste (you can add sour cream or cheese to the potatoes if you\u2019d like).<\/p>\n<p>Place beef mixture into baking dish. Distribute mashed potatoes on top. Rough up with a fork so that there are peaks that will brown nicely. You can use the fork to make some designs in the potatoes as well.<\/p>\n<p>Cook in 400 degree oven until bubbling and brown (about 30 minutes).
