Broesler School of Irish Dance
http://www.broesler.com/

The Kevin Broesler School of Irish Dance has been an active member of the East Coast Irish community since 1986. The school was opened in New York by its founder and director, Kevin Broesler. Mr. Broesler, a former national and world champion stepdancer and a featured performer at various concerts and cultural festivals, is a fully accredited teacher and adjudicator of Irish dancing, qualified by the An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha in Ireland. In 2004, Kevin Broesler was honored by Irish American magazine as one of its top 100 Irish Americans. The school has continued to grow; first, into Maryland in 1988, followed by New Jersey in 1994. Currently classes are offered in Rockland, Fishkill, and Brewster, New York; Westwood, New Jersey; and Baltimore, Maryland. The expansion of the school has been marked by the success enjoyed by many of Mr. Broesler's former and current students at regional and national competitions, and at the World Irish Dancing Championships held each year in Ireland.

Pete Moss & The Bog Band.
http://www.bogband.com/

It all started in September 2004 when a group of sixth grade boys at the Washington Waldorf School (Bethesda, Maryland), along with Mitch Fanning, their string class teacher, formed a fiddle club to play traditional Irish music. The boys thought it would be really cool to learn Traditional Irish fiddling and hoped in the process to get good enough to perform and help raise money for their eighth grade class trip.
Soon others joined in the fun, and the Bog Boys expanded to include the eleven fiddle players + one harpist, with representation from six elementary, middle and high schools throughout the Washington, DC vicinity. Since our recording session in June, others have joined the group, including a number of really good fiddlers who happen to be girls - hence our name change to "Pete Moss & The Bog Band."

The Flying Cows of Ventry
http://www.flyingcowsofventry.com/

The Flying Cows of Ventry have revitalized the traditional folk music of Ireland in the Washington area with an effusion of energy and imagination. Their music preserves, and yet enlivens and extends, the intelligence and subtlety of the ancient and powerful traditions of Irish music. The Cow's repertoire includes traditional jigs, reels and airs on the fiddle, a lively assortment of traditional and contemporary ballads, as well as original vocal and instrumental compositions spun tastefully from the finest of the Irish Tradition. With strong vocal harmonies and driving instrumental pieces, the Cows fill a need for music that you can actually sing along with or, if the mood strikes you, even dance to. Their unique blend led one fellow musician to dub them "the Clancy Brothers with a fiddle." From their solid Irish base, the Cows will often stray into related musical pastures such as bluegrass, country and western swing. They've even been known to dabble in popular and rock 'n' roll tunes (without resorting to mind-numbing percussion of so-called "Celtic rock").

Scythian
Scythian
Scythian: One of the premier bands in the Celtic Community, Scythian has been chosen to kick off ShamrockFest 2008. In the last year, fans of Scythian throughout DC, Philly, Baltimore, New York, the Midwest, and beyond have clamored loud enough to get the band to play in their hometown. Be one of the Scythian crowd and break out in to a jig, bang on tambourines, "breakdance-fight", and just enjoy some mad playing. So join the ruckus and witness the madness of a Scythian performance, LIVE.

The Tossers
The Tossers

Tossers: Raised on the South Side of Chicago which is known for its huge Irish Catholic community, The Tossers emerged in the early 90s with their own brew of Celtic music fueled by a love of traditional folk songs and punk rock fury. Using traditional instrumentation comprised of mandolin, fiddle, tin whistle and banjo beefed up with guitar and drums, The Tossers play with a furious edge that teeters between rage and raucousness.

Carbon Leaf
Carbon Leaf

Carbon Leaf: Carbon Leaf blasted into the national spotlight two years ago with their major label debut, Indian Summer. But while they kept busy working as support on major national tours (Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows, John Mayer, etc.) and headlining their own, this Virginia-based band continues to grow and deliver songs whose sounds get richer, whose grooves get more infectious, and whose messages run deeper and deeper. Carbon Leaf defines itself as a tight instrumental unit, capable of cranking up the heat even with scaled-down arrangements based on acoustic guitar, in perfect complement to a vocal sound that cannot be mistaken for anyone else's.

Great Big Sea
Great Big Sea

Their style fuses Newfoundland traditional music with modern pop in a melodic formula both heartfelt and vital. A pure force of nature, much like the ocean surge they take their name from, Great Big Sea's blend of instruments like mandolin, bodhran, fiddle, and concertina, along with their vocal harmonies, revels in the melodies they create and the Newfoundland tunes they love. Their sound bellows joy and pays homage to their beloved folk music.
